At an October 28 awards banquet,Honors Scholar Tyler Sams received a $5,000 scholarship from the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists national organization. Sams, a junior Biology major from Atlanta, was one of twenty awardees, with most of the recipients coming from the Texas Tech Graduate School.

Tyler plans to become a medical missionary after graduate studies.  He has served on summer mission trips in Africa and Central America.  Tyler is currently working on undergraduate research projects with Professor Julie Marshall, and he has presented research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
